cant get the overflow to fill

cant get the over flow to fill my tank almost overflowed but i caught it before it happened can anyone help me out

In order to start the siphon, all the air needs to be removed from the inside of the overflow. We recommend attaching an Aqua Lifter pump to the air nipple on top of the box to start and maintain siphon in the box. If you do not have any pump attached to the air nipple, a check valve will be needed to stop air from leaking into the box.
